Research Themes for Environmental Studies

1. Study and evaluation of Hema system for maintaining the Ecological balance.

Hema system (equal sharing of natural resources) was prevailing in Arab countries but was regularised and strengthened in its right perspectives at the time of Prophet Mohammed(PBUH).Most Arab countries are now reviving this very useful system. There is need to study the whole system and see its practicality in Indian context where men and wild animal and its habitatconflict is increasing rapidly. Our National Parks and sanctuaries could be a place of sustainability by adopting the Hema System.

2. Study of environmental science with reference to Quranic teachings:

Many practical solutions on man and environment conflict have been given in the Holy Quran. Al though many studies have been conducted in this regard, there is a need to look into this aspect, especially in the light of recent developments.

3. Species richness and bio-diversity:

Many animals and plants are at the verge of extinction in the country due to their over or unwise use. Islamic teachings are quite favorable for maintaining the balance of nature and help in avoiding greed. Some in-depth study is required highlighting this philosophy of Islam.

4.Conservation of water bodies & maintenance of Natural Water Cycle in the light of Quranic Teachings.

5. Forest Management – A balanced approach, as suggested in Quran.

6. Sustainable Development – The Islamic Approach.

7. Study on Environmental awareness: There is a general lacking in environmental awareness but Muslim communities appear to be the most ignorant. A special compaign on environmental awareness & education can be launched. Local issues such as air pollution, water, over use of pesticides and fertilizers etc. can be taken up

8. As the Muslim community is mostly associated with slaughter house and poultry birds meat business. So if the waste products and others like blood feathers, skin etc. can be scientifically managed for other purposes then it will be effective to control the pollution hazard caused by these two businesses.
