The book
"Psychology and Society in Islamic Perspective" is the systematic attempt to
explain human psychology in Islamic perspective. It is an established fact that the
history of psychology is as old as Islam traces of which are found in the Quranic
narration of Adam and Eve who disobeyed God after being misled by Iblis (Satan).
Thus flexibility and adaptability in human behavior can never be denied. The Muslim Ummah,
as human groups may not be exception. Although Muslims had a glorious and dignified past,
their present condition is not very optimistic. Because of the sharp worldly changes and
diminishing glories of the Ummah concerted efforts are needed for enhancing their image,
developing their potentials and preparing psychologically to meet the challenges before
them. Keeping in view the contemporary problems a two-day seminar was organized to discuss
Muslims Psychology and give concrete shape to Islamic Psychology.
This book is based
on research papers contributed by scholars from India and abroad. The focal theme of the
papers largely concentrated on the description of concept of Islamic Psychology, its
Quranic allegiance and need for Islamization of knowledge; explanations of human behavior
in different social, organizational and environmental context. This maiden attempt will
surely be an important treatise, which will be of immense use for giving shape to Islamic
Psychology by the scholars in the field.
