Highlights on International Seminar on Islamic Economics
and the Economy of
Indian Muslims
The economy of Indian Muslim is also an area of study which has assume greater significance in recent years.A community accounting for 12 percent of the country's population represent the most backward segment of nation's craven economic deprivation ,cultural deterioration,political helplessness and social backwardness have caste dark shadows on this second largest group of Indian society .Isolation from the economic mainstream of such great chunk of people does indeed constitute a major socio-economic problem of national importance.
In this perspective the Institute of Objective studies organised an International Seminar on 'Islamic Economic and the Economy of Indian Muslims which bought together a group of experts,policy makers,opinion makers economists and academicians for examining issues that are crucial for creating a just economic order and social system.This publication contain a gist of the discussion at the seminar and identifies major problem areas and specific issues related to theoretical and practical aspects of Islamic economics ,and the economy of Indian Muslims along with the recommendations and work programme as evolved in the course of discussion during the seminar.The resume of the proceeding was prepared by on the basis of reports presented by the Rapporteurs of the different sessions.
