ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2017-2018 The Institute conducts a scheme of award of scholarship for talent promotion and advancement of knowledge. Provision of award of scholarships for higher studies normally inculcates human values and interest, commitment and motivation for academic pursuits specially in younger scholars. These are taken as kind of recognition of talent for research. Objectives The objectives of the Scholarship Programme of IOS are enumerated below: To promote learning and enrichment of knowledge by providing opportunities for talented and promising students to carry on their academic pursuits. To motivate talented students and provide them an opportunity to pursue their studies with undivided attention. To prepare young scholars for their definite role in achieving the objectives of the IOS. Operational Scheme The IOS scholarship scheme provides for financial assistance to students and fellows in the form of monthly scholarships, study grants, travel grants, thesis preparations, expenditure, etc. The entire programme is spread into four categories of scholarships as discussed below: (a) Scholarship in Social Sciences and Humanities (SSS) Under this category students and fellows undertaking studies in various disciplines of social sciences and humanities are selected at M.A., M.Phil and specially at the Ph.D. level. For researchers, the Institute has prepared a compendium of research themes providing a clear perspective and focus for conducting their research. The selected themes are arranged according to the disciplines. (b) Scholarship for Language Promotion (SLP) The purpose of this scholarship category is to develop talents in the field of inter-language communication so that beneficiaries may be able to interpret, translate or communicate from one language into another. In this category, students enrolled in diploma and degree courses can avail scholarship. Presently , Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Sanskrit, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Malay, Russian and Japanese enjoy preferential status in the scheme. (c) Scholarship for Madrasa Students Opting Social Sciences and Humanities (SMS) This category of scholarship is meant for students and fellows hailing from madrasas to undertake identified courses in humanities and social sciences. Such recipients are expected to become well-verse with modern subjects, so that they may be able to come out with solutions, in the light of the Qur'an and the Sunnah, to various socio-economic problems of the contemporary world. Students in degree courses and beyond are selected under this category. In addition to the above mentioned category, scholarship award has been extended to two new areas, "Peace Studies" and "Fiqh Studies". The scholarship for Peace Studies is given to the persons undergoing specially designed courses for promoting human values. The award for Fiqh Studies is intended to build up a team of Scholars who may able to provide solutions to the contemporary problems arising out of the technology development and the changing socio-economic conditions. In view of the growing effectiveness of the role of "Journalism/Mass Communication" in the world of today scholarships are also awarded to the prospective journalists having potential to develop a balanced impartial and enlightened view on different aspects. Mechanism The Scholarship Committee of IOS is assigned the functions of policy formulation, selection scheme, implementation and monitoring of the programme. The scholarship award is announced every year in June and July, and the last date for submission of the duly filled application form is September 5, 2000. The awardees are selected on merit cum need basis. The commitment, moral behaviour and attitudes of aspirants are basic requirements for selection. Schedule: The announcement for scholarship programme is generally made during the month of July and interviews of short listed candidates are conducted in November every year. Scholarship for the year 1999-2000
